- ¼ fresh melon
- 1 bottle dry white wine
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1½ cups prepared lemonade
- ¼ cup white rum
- 1 tart green apple, sliced
- 1 lemon, thinly sliced
- 10 to 12 fresh mint leaves
- Ice, for serving
Cut the melon into cubes or scoop into melon balls, then place in the freezer for at least 3 hours until well chilled.
In a large pitcher, combine the white wine and sugar. Stir until the sugar begins to dissolve.
Pour in the lemonade and white rum, mixing well to blend the flavors.
Add the sliced green apple and lemon to the pitcher.
Remove the frozen melon from the freezer and stir it into the sangria mixture.
Toss in the fresh mint leaves and refrigerate the sangria for about 2 hours to allow the flavors to infuse together.
Taste before serving and add a little more sugar if a sweeter drink is preferred.
Fill glasses with ice and pour the chilled sangria over the top. Serve immediately.
- Freezing the melon helps keep the sangria cold without watering it down.
- Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay both work well for this recipe.
- Adjust the sweetness depending on the tartness of the fruit and lemonade used.
- For a non-alcoholic version, replace the wine and rum with sparkling white grape juice or lemon-lime soda.
