Equipment

  • Muffin tray
  • Parchment paper or nonstick spray
  • Knife for slicing apples
  • Mixing bowls
  • Pastry brush

Ingredients

  • 1 box 2 sheets of puff pastry (Pepperidge Farms recommended)
  • 3 red apples Fuji apples for sweetness and crisp texture
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 4 tbsp butter divided
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon powder
  • Powdered sugar for dusting(Optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a muffin tray with nonstick spray.
  • Prepare Apples:
Wash the apples thoroughly. Cut them in half lengthwise, remove the cores, and slice the apples thinly, keeping the cut side down to maintain a uniform shape.
  • Season Apples:
In a bowl, toss the apple slices with the juice of ½ lemon, 1-2 teaspoons of granulated sugar, and a pinch of cinnamon. This helps flavor and prevents browning.
  • Prepare Puff Pastry:
Melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Lay out the puff pastry sheets and brush with melted butter. In a small bowl, mix the remaining granulated sugar with cinnamon, and sprinkle over the buttered pastry.
  • Assemble the Roses:
Cut each puff pastry sheet into six even strips. Place apple slices along one edge of a pastry strip, slightly overlapping and extending over the top. Fold the bottom of the pastry over the apples, then gently roll to form a rose shape.
  • Bake:
Place each rose into the prepared muffin tray. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden and the apple edges are just browning.
  • Cool and Serve:
Let the apple roses cool in the tray for about 10 minutes before serving. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar for extra sweetness.

Notes

  • Apple Choice: Fuji apples are recommended for their natural sweetness, but any firm, sweet apple variety will work.
  • Serving Suggestions: Serve warm with a cup of tea or a light dessert wine. They also make a stunning addition to any brunch or holiday table.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in a warm oven to crisp them up before serving.
